Ehrenfried von Willich (lawyer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ehrenfried von Willich (born March 29, 1807 in Stralsund ; † November 21, 1880 in Breslau ) was a German lawyer and royal Prussian senior government councilor . He was the stepson of the theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher .

Life

He came from the pastor family Willich from the Mark Brandenburg and was the son of the same name Ehrenfried von Willich (1777-1807), Protestant field preacher with the Swedish body regiment of the queen in Stralsund, and Henriette von Mühlenfels (1788-1840). His father died just under two months before Ehrenfried was born. His widowed mother Henriette married in 1809 her husband's close friend, the theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher, who took in Ehrenfried and his older sister Henriette (1805-1886), later married Goldschmidt, as stepchildren. Willich adored his stepfather very much, but viewed his mother and her weaknesses quite critically.

According to his matriculation certificate, Willich studied law at the University of Berlin from the summer semester 1830 to the winter semester 1832/33 , at which his stepfather Schleiermacher had been a professor since 1810. He later worked as a Prussian administrative lawyer and became a senior councilor in Breslau ( Lower Silesia ).

Willich married Charlotte Countess von Schwerin (* June 5, 1826 - † July 28, 1898), the daughter of Heinrich Ludwig Wilhelm Karl Graf von Schwerin (1776–1839) and Charlotte Friederike Luise von Berg (1783–1826).

There is an extensive correspondence between him and his stepfather Schleiermacher, which is reproduced and evaluated in recognized sources.
