Eicken breaks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eicken-Bruche is a district of the city of Melle .

history

Good fractions

Eicken-Bruche is a relatively old settlement that dates back to the end of the 19th century. At that time it consisted of scattered farms that were mainly focused on grain and fodder crops production, but today it is less and less distinguished due to increasing development. The origin of the name is easy to explain. Eicken means "oak" and Bruche comes from the word "Bruch", the meadow, the field. So when it was founded, there were large oak forests or meadows on which there were many oaks.

The Bruche manor was owned by the Lords of Oer from around 1500 . About the widow of Otto von Pestel , the second wife in 1922 Ludwig von Bar married, it got to the still resident family of Bar .

Until 1970 Eicken-Bruche was an independent municipality.

geography

Although Eicken-Bruche lies between the Teutoburg Forest and the Wiehengebirge , there are only minor differences in altitude. Rather, most of the community lies in a lowland. Agriculture continues to dominate land use, although real estate is increasingly being built for the increasing wave of immigration. The population of Eicken-Bruches, or Eickens for short, is around 2000 inhabitants.

The Melle-Grönegau landing site is also located south of Eicken .

European work

Every two years there is a cultural meeting between the oak villages , i.e. the villages of Europe whose name comes from the word oak. The following municipalities take part in the activities:

  • Eicken-Bruche (D), located in the Melle district,
  • Eke (B), in the Nazareth district, in Ghent,
  • Eecke (F), located near Lille on the Belgian border,
  • Eiken (CH), located in northern Aargau, Switzerland,
  • Eyke (GB), in the province of East Anglia, about 40 km from Ipswich,
  • Egtved (DK), province near the town of Vejle in Sydjylland,

the last two municipalities took part in the exchange for the first time in 2005. An international tent camp tries to introduce the youth to the project, which is financially supported by the European Union .

Sports / education

The Eickener Spielvereinigung is at home in Eicken. There is a wide range of options, with handball clearly being the most popular sport in the village. The first men’s team also plays in the Landesliga Weser-Ems, while youth teams from the ESV also make it at state level.

There is a small elementary school with a language support class.

gastronomy

Eicken-Bruche owns several restaurants, both a Greek restaurant and businesses that offer rustic German food. There are also various farm shops where you can buy fresh bread rolls or organic eggs.
