Eilbeker Bürgerpark
The Eilbeker Bürgerpark is a public green space of around 1.5 hectares in the Hamburg district of Eilbek . It goes back to the former private estate of the merchant Dethard Kalkmann (father of the archaeologist August Kalkmann ), who had a representative villa built here in the 19th century . When the site was to be parceled out and sold at the turn of the century, the city acquired the property in 1902 and converted it into a public recreational park for the then rapidly growing population of Eilbeck. The villa served as a popular excursion restaurant until it was demolished in 1911.
Today, the roughly right-angled area between Wandsbeker Chaussee in the north and Papenstrasse in the south in the central area consists of open meadow areas, a children's playground and several leisure sports (basketball, small football). However, old tree-lined walking paths have also been preserved at the edge. A green corridor about 500 meters long parallel to Wandsbeker Chaussee connects the Bürgerpark with the Jacobipark further east .
On the north side of the park on Wandsbeker Chaussee there is an underground tube bunker from the Second World War.
