Anastasia Virsaladze Davydovna ( Russian Анастасия Давыдовна Вирсаладзе ., Scientific transliteration Anastasija Davydovna Virsaladze * 11. November 1883 in Kutaisi , † 5. September 1968 in Tbilisi ) was a Georgian pianist and piano teacher for a long time at the Conservatory Tbilisi taught. Anastassija Wirsaladze was the grandmother of the Georgian pianist Elisso Wirsaladze , who initially taught her to play the piano.

life and work

Anastassija Wirsaladze studied with Anna Nikolajewna Jessipowa in Saint Petersburg . Wirsaladze became a piano teacher and was one of the founders of the Georgian piano school. In 1921 she began teaching piano at the Conservatory in Tbilisi. In 1929 she was appointed professor. From 1932 she was head of the piano department. Overall, she taught at this conservatory from 1921 to 1946. In 1935 she was a member of the jury for the Second All-Union Pianist Competition and in 1937 for the third of these competitions. Her granddaughter, Elisso Wirsaladze, studied with her from the age of 8. Anastassija Wirsaladze taught Dmitri Alexandrowitsch Bashkirow , Lev Vlassenko , Dawid Toradze and other piano talents in Tbilisi. Anastassija Wirsaladze stood for a piano school that was characterized by a style of refined taste and high sound culture. Wirsaladze is the author of a series of methodological introductions to piano playing. She has also written memoirs for her teacher Anna Nikolajewna Jessipowa.

Elisso Wirsaladse describes her grandmother as a pianist in an interview as follows: “She played the piano very well. But she always had problems with her hands, perhaps because she didn't get the right training as a child. But then she studied in St. Petersburg and then had a great career and was probably the first Russian pianist to perform in the USA. There she got to know the American composers and played them more and more. She wasn't really a traveling concert pianist as we know it today, because that wasn't even possible back then. "

Awards

An art school in Tbilisi bears the name of Anastassija Wirsaladze. In 1942 she received the Award of Honored Artist of the Georgian Soviet Republic , in 1953 she received the Order of Lenin , in 1958 the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and in 1960 the Award for People's Artist of the Georgian Soviet Republic .
