Einar Örn Jónsson (born December 28, 1976 in Reykjavík ) is a former Icelandic handball player. The right winger played in Germany for SG Wallau / Massenheim and GWD Minden in the Bundesliga .

career

Einar Örn Jónsson started playing handball in his Icelandic homeland with Valur Reykjavík and played from 2000 until his move to Germany in 2002 to SG Wallau / Massenheim with Haukar Hafnarfjörður . Since Wallau / Massenheim did not receive a license for the 2005/06 Bundesliga season due to a bankruptcy application , he moved to CB Torrevieja in the Spanish ASOBAL league and returned to Germany a year later and signed a two-year contract with GWD Minden . After the end of his contract he played again for Haukar Hafnarfjörður and ended his handball career in 2011. With Haukar he won the Icelandic championship in 2009 and 2010.

With the Icelandic national team , Einar took part in four world championships ( 2001 , 2003 , 2005 and 2007 ), two European championships ( 2002 and 2004 ) and the 2004 Olympic Games . However, he could not win a medal during this time. He made a total of 122 international matches in which he scored 253 goals.

Private

Einar Örn Jónsson studied Politics and Communication Science at the University of Iceland and started working as a sports reporter for the Icelandic TV station RÚV after his handball career . He has also been the head of sports there since October 2014.

On December 31, 2002 he married his partner Birna Ósk Hansdóttir. The couple now live in Reykjavík with their daughter Elísabet Ása and their son Agnar Daði .
