Included ( Hebrew אסורות, Asurot ; in English Detained ) is a multi-award-winning documentary by the Israeli directors Anat Even and Ada Ushpiz from 2001, which won the Golden Dove at the Leipzig International Film Festival that same year .

Plot background

The city of Hebron is considered to be one of the oldest cities in the world and is located in the West Bank. In its eventful history, Hebron has repeatedly experienced painful occupations. With the beginning of the Israeli settlement of the West Bank, the Arab population was displaced from the city center since 1967. Due to the presence of Israeli settlers, there were numerous house evictions and business closings on the Palestinian side. In order to better protect the approximately 500 Israeli settlers, the city was divided in 1997 in the so-called Hebron Agreement. While the city center remained in Israeli hands, the remaining areas for the approximately 130,000 inhabitants were placed under Palestinian administration. The remaining 30,000 Palestinians in the city center now faced over 100 obstacles and 18 Israeli army checkpoints. Many houses were found on the newly built border strip.

action

The film portrays the three widows Najwa, Nawal and Shiam, who live with their children in a multi-storey building on the border strip. The front of the house is under Israeli command and the Palestinians are watching the back. There is an Israeli military post on the roof and the stairwell is teeming with soldiers. The women are not allowed to cross the border; they are prisoners in their own home.

In their film “Asurot”, the Israeli filmmakers Anat Even and Ada Ushpiz show the three women trying to cope with their daily lives.
