Einhäuschen cross street
The Einhäuschen cross street is a street in Lübeck .
location
The approximately 50 meter long Einhäuschen Querstraße is located in the Marien Quartier on the western edge of the old town island and runs in a north-south direction. It connects the Fischstraße with the Braunstraße , into which it joins when coming from the north opposite the Lederstraße .
history
The Einhäuschen Querstraße in the so-called Gründerviertel , the medieval nucleus of Lübeck, was for centuries a narrow connecting lane between two main streets, spanned by candle arches . Since it was of little importance, its name was first handed down in writing at a very late point in time: in 1783 it was mentioned in the Lübeck advertisements with the designation Einhäuschen-Dwasstraße , which, however, had been in use for a long time and was well known got to. In 1852 this name was adopted as the official version, but in 1884 it was exchanged for the current High German version.
The historic buildings were completely destroyed in the air raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 . During the reconstruction of the founding district, the street was widened many times over and, surrounded by modern functional buildings, was given a completely different character. However, the space-like expansion was not accompanied by a corresponding design; Einhäuschen-Querstraße became a pure parking lot without any qualities of its own.
A significant part of the buildings from the post-war years has now been demolished, and following an archaeological investigation, the founding district is now being extensively redesigned.
