The fish street is a street in Lübeck .

location

The approximately 210 meter long Fischstraße is located in the Marien Quartier on the western edge of the old town island and runs in an east-west direction. It begins at the Schüsselbuden opposite the confluence of the Marienkirchhof at the foot of the Marienkirche . In the further course the Neue Querstraße joins first from the north , then from the south the square-like, expanded Einhäuschen Querstraße , then again from the north the straight cross street before the Fischstraße meets the street An der Obertrave and ends.

history

The fish route was first mentioned in a document in 1263 as platea piscium . In 1362 it is recorded as Vischstrate , 1413 as Visstrate . The current name was officially established in 1852.

Until well into the 20th century, Fischstraße , which was part of the founding quarter , Lübeck's medieval nucleus, had a large number of historical buildings, primarily Gothic and Renaissance gabled houses . In the house at Fischstrasse 1 on the corner of Schüsselbuden, Thomas Fredenhagen's temporary home , was the Fredenhagens Keller wine bar, which was very well known in the first half of the 20th century, in a medieval vaulted cellar . The development fell completely victim to the air raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 . During the reconstruction in the post-war years, the street was widened, modern functional buildings were built on both sides, which neither in terms of proportions nor architecturally related to the original street appearance, so that the Fischstraße did not come close to its historical character in terms of spatial impression or appearance.

A significant part of the buildings from the post-war years has now been torn down. This was followed by an archaeological investigation of the founding quarter, after which the affected streets are now largely redesigned.
