The mountain Einhyrningur ( Icelandic unicorn ) is located in Iceland . It reaches a height of 651 m .
location
It is located in the south of the country between Fljótshlíð and the Þórsmörk in the Rangárvallasýsla district .
Volcanism
The mountain is a palagonite ridge , which means that it owes its existence to eruptions in a crevice under an ice age glacier .
Surname
The name Einhyrningur (Eng. Unicorn ) comes from the peculiar shape of the mountain. The rather steep and rocky mountain has a conspicuous horn at the northeast end.
Rockclimbing
You can climb the mountain from the south-east starting from a hut south of Einhyrningur, which was built mainly for the sheep chopper.
Settlement history
Lt. Conquest book moved here Sighvatur hinn Rauði who built up the farm Bólstaður to the foot of the mountain. Until recently there were traces of earlier settlement in the area in the Þórsmörk south of the Tindfjöll and also at this point.
