Unity Wilhelmsburg is a sports club from the Hamburg district of Wilhelmsburg . The first soccer team played in the top amateur class for eight years after the Second World War.

history

In 1916 the wild "FC Hohenzollern" was founded by young people in the Wilhelmsburger Bahnhofsviertel. After the end of the war, it was officially accepted into the sports association and was renamed a number of times. So the club was initially called WFC Unity, later FC Amateure and FC Unity, then after the merger with the Wilhelmsburger Turnerbund in 1934 "Reichsbahn Turn- und Sportverein Wilhelmsburg". In the old station district, the club now had two sports fields, its own gym and a small-bore shooting range between Parallelstrasse and Schönenfelderstrasse. The club, which renamed itself to ESV Unity after the war, was known primarily for its football department. In the thirties and forties she belonged to the second division for a few years before the club had to stop playing in 1942 due to the war. The club then caused a sensation in the first few years after the war, when the black and white team was promoted to the "amateur league" in 1950 after two consecutive championships. With fourth place, the team achieved their best placement in the second German division in 1953. Five years later, the team was relegated from the amateur league, as a large part of the talent was poached by top northern German clubs. In 1963, as the third of the Hansa-Staffel , Einigkeit narrowly missed the rise. Three years later, the team was also relegated from the Association League. The first team has played in the district class since relegation from the district league in 2016 .
