Mario Lau (born August 6, 1972 in Neubrandenburg ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Mario Lau started playing football in his hometown at BSG Post Neubrandenburg . Due to his talent, he switched to the youth team of FC Hansa Rostock , but could not assert himself there sustainably, so that his first stop in the men's area was Post Neubrandenburg again. From there he moved to Greifswalder SC before he got an offer from the second division club SV Meppen in 1995 . In two years in Meppen, Mario Lau made 46 appearances in the second division, in which he scored five goals. In 1997 the coach of 1. FC Magdeburg Hans-Dieter Schmidt , who lives in Meppen, brought him to the Elbe, where Lau strengthened the squad of FCM, which had just been promoted to the regional league. But even in Magdeburg he was only able to assert himself to a limited extent. He played 59 games in three years, in which he scored 14 times. In 1998 Lau won the state cup in Saxony-Anhalt with 1. FC Magdeburg . Since he was mostly only used in the second team in his last season , he moved to the upper division TSG Neustrelitz in summer 2000 , where he stayed for four years. After a year at VfL Rheinbach , Mario Lau moved back to Magdeburg, but not to FCM, but to the Prussia Magdeburg association league . At the end of his career he played for three years for the Hamburg regional league club Barsbütteler SV .
