Sverdlovsk Railway Museum
The Museum of the Sverdlovsk Railway ( Russian : Музей Свердловской железной дороги, Musei Swerdlowskoi schelesnoi dorogi or Екатеринбургский музей железнодорожного транспорта, Jekaterinburgski musei schelesnodoroschnowo transportation) is a railway museum in Yekaterinburg , Sverdlovsk Oblast , Russia , which opened in the 1970s. It consists of the old Yekaterinburg station building in the city center (Uralskaya underground station) and an exhibition area of 6,000 m² at the Yekaterinburg-Sortirowytschny station on the north-western outskirts of Yekaterinburg ( location ).
history
The museum opened in the 1970s, initially only for railroad workers and for outsiders only by invitation. The museum was opened to the public in 2003 in the old Ekaterinburg reception building, which was built by the architect Pyotr Schreiber in 1878. The restoration of the building was carried out on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Sverdlovsk Railway. The entrance is decorated with bronze sculptures of travelers and railroad workers. There are also bogies for a freight car, a semaphore, and a lifting gate near the entrance .
Exhibits
The permanent exhibition shows information boards about famous Sverdlovsk railway workers, a model railway, work equipment, historical photographs, signal systems, locomotive models (including the first Russian steam locomotive by the brothers Jefim and Miron Tscherepanow ), superstructures, uniforms and models of the Revda and Verkh-Neyvinsky stations. The exhibition covers the period from the arrival of rail transport in the region to the present day. The exhibit also features a VL11 driver's cab, the station board's workplace from the early 1950s, and a ticket office.
Historical vehicles (14 rail vehicles) are exhibited in the open-air exhibition area in Yekaterinburg-Sortirowochny. The total length of the exhibition tracks is 300 m.
Exhibits
The exhibition in the reception building presents small locomotives and freight cars . The following locomotives from the years of construction 1931, 1934, 1936 and 1946 are exhibited in the open air.
