Vain Friedrich III. von Hohenzollern (* 1494 ; † June 15, 1525 in Pavia ) from the Swabian line of the Hohenzollern was Count of Hohenzollern from 1512 to 1525 .

Life

Vain Friedrich III. was the son of Count Eitel Friedrich II. von Hohenzollern (1452-1512) from his marriage to Magdalena (1460-1496), daughter of Margrave Friedrich III. of Brandenburg . He succeeded his father in 1512 as regent of the county of Hohenzollern . On the other hand, Gustav Schilling regarded Eitel Friedrich as the grandson of Eitel Friedrich II. Eitel Friedrich was educated together with the later Emperor Charles V in Brussels .

In 1515 he married Johanna van Witthem († 1544), daughter of Philipp, Herr von Beersel and Bautershem .

Eitel Friedrich was the top secret councilor and great court master under Emperor Maximilian I , which shows that he, like his father before him, maintained good relations with the Habsburgs . He also held the office of Reich Treasurer and he was the governor of the Hohenberg lordship.

The count died in Pavia in 1525, where he was captain of the German mercenaries. Poisoning by an envious Spanish officer is believed to be the cause of death. Eitel Friedrich was buried in the cathedral of Pavia .
