Eitelhans von Westernach († March 18, 1576 ) from the Westernach family was imperial knight and owner of the castle and lordship of Bächingen an der Brenz .

Life

Eitelhans von Westernach was the son of Bernhard von Westernach and probably Margaretha von Westernach born von Knöringen († August 30, 1553). Eitelhans managed to spin off Bächingen from the Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg as a free imperial knighthood . He introduced the Reformation in the village in 1576 .

There is an epitaph for Eitelhans von Westernach in the Protestant church of St. Nikolaus in Bächingen an der Brenz . The heavily weathered inscription reads:

"Anno Domini: MDLXXVI: the XVIII. day martii, the noble and vest Eitelhanns of Wöstern was demanded from this lamentation, according to whom God and all of his would give a freliche resurrection Amen. "

The deceased is depicted life-size in armor. The coats of arms Westernach and Ow can be seen at its feet . At the very bottom is the signature, H * S for Hans Schaller , the sculptor from Ulm .
