Ekkehard Kreft

Ekkehard Kreft (born July 14, 1939 in Sagan , Upper Silesia; died December 27, 2015 in Krefeld ) was a German music teacher and professor of musicology and music education at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster.

Life

After completing his music teacher studies in 1964, Ekkehard Kreft initially worked as a music teacher in the school service. In 1969 he received his doctorate at the University of Münster on the subject of Beethoven's late quartets - substance and substance processing . In 1972 he moved to the University of Education in Westphalia-Lippe as an academic senior counselor . In 1974 he completed his habilitation and in 1979 was given an extraordinary professorship . In 1980 he was appointed full professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University (WWU). For several years he headed the Institute for Music Education there and was involved in setting up the music therapy diploma course in music therapy. In 2004 he retired from active service at the university.

In addition to questions of harmony , he was particularly interested in the composer Edvard Grieg . Together with Joachim Dorfmüller , he founded the Edvard Grieg Research Center at the University of Münster in 1995, which was relocated to the University of the Arts in Berlin after he left Münster University . In 1996 he was elected Vice President of the German Edvard Grieg Society. In 1997 he became a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences . From 2007 to 2012 he was President of the International Edvard Grieg Society.
