Ekkehard Stoevesand (born June 25, 1946 in Gransee ) is a German sculptor and painter .

Career

Growing up in Berlin , he studied sculpture at the State University of Fine Arts in Berlin from 1968 to 1974 . From 1974 to 1977 Stoevesand worked as an art teacher at the Kaiserin-Auguste-Viktoria-Gymnasium in Celle . During this time, from 1975 to 1977, he also studied painting at the art academy in Hanover . Since 1978 he has lived and worked as a freelance artist, mainly in Berlin.

Stoevesand has been married since 1995 and lives with his wife in Berlin-Friedenau.

Act

Stoevesand initially worked as a sculptor, but soon turned to abstract expressionist painting. His works in the 1990s were shaped by "thinking about Germany". The viewer notices this mainly through the colors black / red / yellow and the Brandenburg Gate motif in his pictures.

After a first visit to Hong Kong in 1998, Ekkehard Stoevesand traveled several times to the Chinese People's Republic for private study visits . This led to his first exhibition in the Gallery Waterpark in Tianjin in 2002 and to a visiting professorship in 2003 at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts . During his later stays of several weeks he also worked in various studios in Tianjin as well as in the " 798 Art Zone " in the Dashanzi art district of Beijing . During this time he created his own view of the development in the People's Republic of China from "slow pace" to "everything new, modern and high-tech". His local colleagues noticed him particularly because he preferred the bicycle as a means of transport. Stoevesand was invited to collaborate with Chinese artists. The resulting works were exhibited in the German embassy and by Chinese gallery owners.

Ekkehard Stoevesand created his pictures primarily using mixed media on cardboard or paper. He painted some works on old school maps.

In 1996 Wilhelm Gauger wrote about the work of Ekkehard Stoevesand: "It is a world where parallel elements come together again and again in the play and battle of shapes, colors and lines and create the impression of flow - an order that emerges from chaos and directions arise in it, like a kind of meaningful coincidence. "
