Filippo Franzoni (born October 8, 1857 in Locarno , † March 17, 1911 in Mendrisio ) was a Swiss-Italian painter .

Life

Filippo Franzoni attended the Academy of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan in 1867 , as a student of Giuseppe Bertini and Luigi Bisi . Thanks to his mother, a cultured personality who probably came from the Milanese aristocracy, he came into contact with the city's cultural circles. In 1893 he returned to Locarno.

In the years 1886–1887 he had his studio on the Isole di Brissago in the circle of Baroness Antoinette de Saint Léger , where Daniele Ranzoni and Vittore Grubicy also frequented. In 1889 he stayed in Paris , Monaco and Venice , where he returned a few years later. He took part in important Italian, Swiss and German exhibitions and was a member of several federal commissions.

He worked on the realization of the Teatro di Locarno, inaugurated in 1902. At the beginning of the 20th century he visited the naturist circle of Monte Verità in Ascona. In 1904 he temporarily lost his eyesight. Due to mental disorders, he was admitted to the neuropsychiatric hospital in Mendrisio, where he died in 1911
