Ekkehart Kröner
Ekkehart Kröner (born November 17, 1919 in Berlin , † April 19, 2000 in Stuttgart ) was a German theoretical physicist .
Life
Kröner grew up in Potsdam. After graduating from high school in 1937, he was drafted into military service and also had to serve in World War II . He was taken prisoner by the Soviets and did not return until 1948. From 1948 to 1954 he studied physics at the University of Stuttgart . After a year-long stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he received offers to Aachen, Hanover and Clausthal. From 1963 to 1969 he was a full professor for theoretical physics at the University of Clausthal and then until his retirement in 1985, as the successor of Ulrich Dehlinger, he held a chair at the Institute for Theoretical and Applied Physics at the University of Stuttgart.
He became internationally known for his work on the theory of plastic deformation of metals due to dislocations and residual stresses .
Awards and honors
In 1961 he was awarded the Physics Prize of the German Physical Society (DPG) for this. He also received honorary doctorates from the University of St. Petersburg and from the University of Metz . Since 1963 he was a member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .
