El Sonido de mi Tierra - The Great Dance of Argentina

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

El Sonido de mi Tierra is a dance ensemble from Argentina for Tango Argentino and Folklore Argentino, founded by Luis Pereyra in 1996. "El Sonido de mi Tierra" means "The sound of my earth". The Great Dance of Argentina means "The Great Dance of Argentina" and is the international term under which the same company performs worldwide outside the Spanish-speaking area. Both names speak of the same company and the same production.

The founder of the company is Luis Pereyra. In 2001 Nicole Nau became a member of the ensemble and from 2003 took on the role of assistant producer alongside her role as a dancer. Nicole Nau and Luis Pereyra are both members of the CID Unesco.

Brief historical treatise

The name "El Sonido de mi Tierra" appeared for the first time in 1996 as part of a "peña folklóica artística", organized by Luis Pereyra in the "La Galería de Tango". He organized this evening in Buenos Aires , with the idea of uniting artists from two genres: namely that of Argentine folklore and that of Tango Argentino and thus to create a total work of art that allows all 23 provinces of Argentina to become one musically and dance-wise.

In 1998 the company "El Sonido de mi Tierra" appeared for the first time in the theater, in the Teatro Avenida in Buenos Aires , and presented "Tango La Danza de fuego", a work that tells the story of "Orillas Maldonadas", written by Luis Pereyra, based on "El hombre de la ezquina rosada" by Jorge Luis Borges . In 2003 she traveled to Europe , later to Japan and Central America .

In 2012 the name "The Great Dance of Argentina" appeared for the first time, a name under which the company appears internationally. Nevertheless, the name "El Sonido de mi Tierra" remains in the Spanish-speaking market.

Prerequisites for artists to be accepted in this company are extensive knowledge of the popular dances of Argentina, both the Argentine folklore and the Argentine tango. In addition, the members must be trained in percussion, Argentine tap dance, singing and the command of musical instruments.

Luis Pereyra founded the first company here that works equally with tango and folklore. He followed his principle that tango is the urban folklore of the city and thus a sibling of all folklore dances from 23 provinces of Argentina. In his productions he shows the overall culture of his country, connections between tango and folklore are shown, black roots, Indian roots and European roots are equally taken into account. The instruments are authentic instruments of the country, the staging is based on the roots of the living culture, symbolic and archaic.

The company's own piece of music

El Sonido de mi Tierra Poetry: Luis Pereyra Music: Sergio Luna Registered at SADAIC Argentina (translation below)

Hablan de palos cantores
Y aquel árbol, crecido y muerto
Vive en tus manos de amores
Que descuerado en su vida
Nos da en su cuero reseco
Sonidos de vida antigua
Ramas, árbol, tronco y vida
Con la daga sanguinaria
Grito la garganta herida
Le saca sonido seco
Como oscuros africanos
Mueves tu bombo a los cielos
Tiene esa angustia escondida
Que anda viajando en el tiempo
Con la esperanza encendida.
Penetra en las alegrías
Mi sangre baila por dentro
Como implorando la vida
Huérfanos parecen todos
El tango va para un lado
La chacarera pal otro
No neguemos a los hijos
Nosotros somos hermanos
Paridos como argentino
En mi tierra Santiagueña
Con el alma Africana
Vivamos todos uno fiesta.
Tiene esa angustia escondida
Que anda viajando en el tiempo
Con la esperanza encendida.
Las palabras de los vientos
Fiera la muerte animal
Vos que con tus manos hachaste
Tus propias manos ahora
El sonido de mi tierra
Mescla de danza y locura
Los sonidos de mi tierra
No neguemos a los padres
Dios quiera que un día todos
El sonido de mi tierra

Translation
The sound of my earth

They talk about singing batons
And the tree, grown and dead,
lives in your hands of love.
That skinned in his life
us in his dry leather
Sound from old life gives
branches, tree, trunk and life
With the bloody dagger
the sore throat has screamed
elicit dry sounds
You move your bombo to the sky Hides
the fear that
travels in time ,
with blooming hope
Penetrates into joys
My blood dances inwardly
as if pleading for life
Orphans they all seem
The tango goes in one direction
The chacarera in the other.
Do not deny the children
We are all brothers
Born Argentines. Celebrate a festival with the African soul
in my country, Santiago . Has this hidden fear that travels through time, Full of ardent hope The words of the winds Ugly the death of the beast You who chopped with your hands Your own hands now Like dark Africans The sound of my country Mixture of dance and madness The sounds of my country Do not deny the parents God grant that one day all The sound of my country
