Elbio Álvarez , full name Elbio Maximiliano Álvarez Wallace , (born June 13, 1994 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.77 meter tall midfielder Álvarez has been in the ranks of the youth team of the Uruguayan first division club Atlético Peñarol since at least 2011 . In 2012 he won the Copa Bimbo with the Montevideans and was used in the 4-2 final victory over Palestino . He made his first team debut under coach Gregorio Pérez on this occasion . At the Aurinegros , he was not used in the Primera División until the end of Apertura 2014 . At the end of January 2013 it was reported that the Álvarez was transferred to Benfica Lisbon in 2011 together with the two players Jim Morrison Varela and Juan San Martín , but initially remained in Montevideo. The transfer fee for the three players should have been 2.9 million euros, according to other sources 2.46 million euros. In August 2013, however, he did not pass the medical examination there due to problems with the cruciate ligaments of the left knee. After initially staying in Montevideo, he has now been in Lisbon's Benfica squad since the end of January 2015. Including his last game for the club on September 16, 2015, he played there in 13 league games (no goal) for the second team that competes in the Segunda League . In September 2016 it was reported that he was now playing for the reserve team of Centro Atlético Fénix, trained by Osvaldo Canobbio , in the Tercera División. In January 2017 he was accepted into the squad of the first division team during the pre-season phase.

National team

Álvarez took part with the Uruguayan U-15 national team at the U-15 South American Championship in Bolivia in 2009 and finished fourth with the team. He was then in the squad of the Uruguayan U-17 selection at the U-17 South American Championship 2011 in Ecuador . He also took part with her at the 2011 U-17 World Cup in Mexico . He contributed with two goals in seven missions to win the runner-up world title. After goalkeeper Cubero , he is referred to as the second best Uruguayan player of the tournament and was voted one of the ten best players of the tournament.
