Elden Ring is a video game currently under development by Japanese studio From Software . The open-world - action-RPG was for Xbox One , PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows announced.

The computer game project , for which the writer is responsible for the background story and mythology , arose from the desire of the lead developer Hidetaka Miyazaki to design a video game with George RR Martin , made famous by the fantasy saga A Game of Thrones .

An officially confirmed release date is not yet known. On the Japanese side of From Software there were only New Year's cards so far, including from Elden Ring , which indicated a release in June 2020. However, this has not been confirmed by either the publisher or the development studio, so it could be a bug.

Miyazaki, designer of the successful Dark Souls video game series and a fan of George Martin's work , contacted him after Dark Souls III was released with the suggestion of a collaboration. Miyazaki described the themes, ideas, and game-related aspects he envisioned for Elden Ring , and gave Martin the creative freedom to write the backstory on which to build the in-game plot .

Setting

As with the previous titles of the studio such as Dark Souls or Bloodborne , Elden Ring will also be located in the dark fantasy genre, according to Miyazaki . But according to the developers, Elden Ring should offer a more open game world than Dark Souls did. According to the interviews, however, there will be no populous cities in Elden Ring , but a world with many ruins and dungeons . At E3 2019 it was announced that the player should create their own character that they control from a third-person perspective . In addition, there should be riding opportunities and fighting on horseback.
