Eleanor Lambert (born August 10, 1903 in Crawfordsville , Indiana , † October 7, 2003 in Manhattan ) was an American fashion journalist .

She was considered the last Empress of America and was feared for her ratings in her 1940 International Best Dressed List . Lambert, daughter of a circus conférencier, laboriously worked her way up to become a public relations woman and promoted fashion designers such as Bill Blass and Oscar de la Renta . During the Second World War, she organized the first fashion week in New York , thus proving the quality of American design. Until the end, Lambert invited them to her apartment.
