Eleazar Chisma
R. Eleasar Chisma ( Eleazar Chisma , sometimes also called Eleazar ben Chisma ; meaning of "Chisma" unclear) was an ancient Jewish scholar plagued by oppressive poverty throughout his life, worked around the year 100 AD and belonged to the second, after others to the third generation of the Tannaites .
Eleazar is said to have been a pupil of Akiba and / or Yehoshua ben Chananja and had great knowledge of astronomy and mathematics. The Talmud praised the extensive mathematical knowledge of Eleazar and Rabbi Jochanan, son of Gudgada, with the saying: "You know how to calculate the number of drops in the sea."
He was probably (together with R. Jochanan ben Nuri ) the overseer in Gamaliels II's house of study.
The Halachot attributed to Eleazar deal mainly with agricultural and purity laws.
