The Electric Ballroom was a regular techno event in SO36 and was one of the most consistent techno events in Berlin .

history

The Electric Ballroom emerged from the left-wing trendy pub Subversiv in Brunnenstrasse in Berlin-Mitte.

With a few exceptions, the event took place every Monday, for the first time on December 25, 1995, in SO36 and under the motto “Affair” a few times in the vault . Once a year, in December also took place on a Saturday in favor of Aids organized Red Ribbon Rave with DJ Westbam place and Residents of the Electric Ballroom in SO36.

Exactly ten years after the first party, the weekly Monday event ended with the 511th and final party on December 26, 2005. Later, the Electric Ballroom took place every two months on Friday.

Regarding the event took the summer of 2006 also briefly Monday takes place in the SO36 series Monday children , but this was discontinued after a few parties. Between February 2007 and the end of 2008, former employees of the Electric Ballroom crew held a monthly event called verified at the same location and at the end of 2010 the concept of the Electric Ballroom under the title Ballroom reloaded was revived at irregular intervals of a few months.

In the tradition of the Electric Ballroom, techno events continued to take place in the SO36 on Mondays under the name Montech , and this series has now also been canceled.

In 2020 there was a live stream of the Electric Ballroom for the United We Stream format .

Characteristic

Similar to the Tekknozid events, the Electric Ballroom was characterized by a no-frills, playful interior design and minimal decoration, as well as consistently hard techno music and dark lighting. The concept has often been described as a continuation of the typical Berlin techno culture of the early 1990s.

The resident DJs from Wolle Haarnagel, Wimpy, Djoker Daan, Dana and Mo have existed since the beginning. Monika Kruse and DJ Rush were among the regular guest DJs .

The audience was mixed with multicultural and homosexual and heterosexual guests atypically for appropriate events. In addition, the Electric Ballroom was visited by particularly persistent fans of the techno scene for a long party weekend or as an after- hour.
