Yaeyama-gun (Okinawa)

Yaeyama-gun ( Japanese 八 重 山 郡 ) is a gun (district) in the southwest of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan . It consists of the communities Taketomi and Yonaguni on the island of the same name and counted on June 1, 2005 5750 inhabitants on 363 km² with a population density of 15.8 inhabitants per km².

Yaeyama-gun includes all islands of the Yaeyama group except Ishigaki-jima and the disputed Senkaku islands . The latter two belong to the city of Ishigaki .
