The Foundation Electrische Museumtramlijn Amsterdam ( EMA for short ) operates a local railway line with historic electric tram cars between the Haarlemmermeer station, Amstelveen and Bovenkerk . This stretch is the remainder of the former Haarlemmermeerschienenwege .

history

The museum line was opened on September 20, 1975 on the occasion of the centenary of the Amsterdam trams . First, a 1200 meter long section was driven to the Ringweg Süd . Over the years, after the tracks were converted for use with trams, the line was extended. For this purpose, overhead lines were laid, switches installed and stops created.

In 1979 the route led to the dinghy pad , in 1981 you could drive through to Kalfjeslaan and get on and off at various stops in the Amsterdamse Bos . In 1983 the extension to Amstelveen was extended. Now the route was 5.7 kilometers in length. It was last put into operation in 1997 as far as Bovenkerk and is almost 7 kilometers long. At the end point in a Bovenkerk was Gleisdreieck created, so that the operation was setup trams, possible.

The tram runs every Sunday between Easter and the end of October, as well as on the second Easter and Pentecost holidays. In addition, themed trips (such as Nicholas and Christmas trips ) are offered. The fleet consists of old tram vehicles from Amsterdam , The Hague , Rotterdam , Zeist , Groningen , Vienna and Prague from the years 1904 to 1960.

Haarlemmermeer station

Planned termination

After years of planning, the city of Amsterdam decided in March 2018 to build a new housing estate on the site behind the Haarlemmermeer station, the 'Havenstraetrain'. In the new zoning plan approved on March 14, 2018, space was not reserved for a depot or for the section along the Havenstraat to the current terminus at Haarlemmermeer station. Mainly because of the latter, the operation of the tram line of the Electronic Museum threatens to become impossible. The new zoning plan contains an authorization to change, which means that the municipality can reserve parts of the property for the railway line and / or a storage building for a limited period of time. A solid financial plan must be presented for this. A petition to maintain the line and the tram depot had already collected more than 14,000 statements of support in mid-May. On May 27, 2019, the Raad van State declared the development plan null and void because it did not sufficiently take into account the interests of the tram museum. This means that there is a good chance that the museum will be preserved in the event of a new plan.
