Elektra / Musician was an American jazz label.

The Elektra / Musician label was founded in 1982 by Bruce Lundvall as a sub-label of Elektra Records . Musicians whose recordings were released on the label were Chico Freeman , the Formation Sphere , Freddie Hubbard and The Griffith Park Collection , Charles Lloyd , Bobby McFerrin , Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner , jazz rock musicians such as Lee Ritenour , Grover Washington Jr. , Eric Gale , Steps Ahead and Billy Cobham , but also musicians and bands of avant-garde jazz such as the World Saxophone Quartet , Bill Laswell and Wayne Horvitz .

Historic recordings of Charlie Parker's bebop ( One Night in Washington ), Lennie Tristano and Dizzy Gillespie have also been re-released on the label .

In 1983 it won the Down Beat Critic's Poll in the Record Label category.

  1. The Griffith Park Collection was a short-lived all-star formation composed of Hubbard, Joe Henderson , Chick Corea , Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White . They released two albums on this label in 1982/83.
