The former Bockenheim electricity works on Voltastraße in Frankfurt-Bockenheim was founded in 1892 by the Elektrizitäts-Aktien-Gesellschaft. W. Lahmeyer & Co. built. As a cultural monument, it is under monument protection .

The power station is a yellow brick building with red pilaster strips and detached blind arches on Kuhwaldstrasse. The power station is located behind a symmetrical gable facade on Kuhwaldstraße, while the former administration building and the condensation plant with its tower-like design are located on Ohmstraße.

On March 19, 1891, before the International Electrotechnical Exhibition in 1891 , Lahmeyer founded the stock corporation for the construction and operation of electrical systems . The originally planned construction of a power light center in the Gallusviertel west of the Galluswarte did not materialize due to delays in the approval process, so the company moved to neighboring Bockenheim . The power station on Voltastrasse, opened in 1892, supplied three-phase current for the Bockenheim industrial companies, namely Pokorny & Wittekind and Voigt & Haeffner . It also supplied the city tram and Bockenheim households with direct current .

For this purpose, four three-phase synchronous generators with a total of 1000 kW and six direct current dynamos with 400 kW were installed in the machine hall . Four tandem compound steam engines with a total of 2250 hp were used as drive .

After the incorporation of Bockenheim, the city of Frankfurt took over the operation of the power plant on January 1, 1901.

In 2017, the renovation began to build 34 apartments and a 1,350 square meter supermarket. The architect is Karl Dudler. The distinctive towers, the chimney and the outer facade should be preserved.
