Elena Săcălici

Elena Săcălici , later Petroşanu , (born July 18, 1935 in Cluj , † 1959 ) was a Romanian artistic gymnast .

She did gymnastics at AS Energia and CS Dinamo Bucharest. In 1954 she was appointed to the national team for the first time.

1956 Săcălici took part in the Olympic Games in Melbourne. With her Dinamo teammates Georgeta Hurmuzachi and Emilia Vătăşoiu as well as Sonia Iovan , Elena Leuştean and Elena Mărgărit , she won bronze behind the Soviet Union and Hungary and thus the first gymnastics all- around team medal for Romania. In addition, Săcălici reached fifth place in the group gymnastics and 30th place in the individual all-around.

At the gymnastics world championships in 1958 Săcălici won the bronze medal with the Romanian team behind the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. In the individual all-around she was ninth as the best Romanian.

In 1959 Elena Săcălici died at the age of only 24.
