Emilia Liță

Emilia Lita , born Vătăşoiu , (* 20th October 1933 in Caineni ) is a former Romanian gymnast .

She started gymnastics at CS Dinamo Bucharest at the age of 18. Just three years later she was a member of the Romanian team, which reached fourth place at the 1954 World Gymnastics Championships . 1956 Liță took part in the Olympic Games in Melbourne. With her Dinamo teammates Elena Săcălici and Georgeta Hurmuzachi as well as Sonia Iovan , Elena Leuştean and Elena Mărgărit , she won bronze behind the Soviet Union and Hungary and thus the first gymnastics all- around team medal for Romania. In addition, Liță reached fifth place in the group gymnastics and 20th place in the individual all-around.

At the gymnastics world championships in 1958 , she won the bronze medal with the Romanian team behind the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. In 1960 Emilia Liță took part in her second Olympic Games in Rome , where she won bronze with the Romanian team like four years earlier. At their third and last Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, Liță was sixth with the Romanian team.

After her active career she stayed as a trainer and referee in gymnastics and took part in the 1972, 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games.
