Eleonora von Zimmer (born August 22, 1554 in Meßkirch ; † August 23, 1606 ) was the daughter of the chronicler Froben von Zimmer , wife of Lazarus von Schwendi and the donor Johann III. from Limpurg .

Life and meaning

Eleonora was born in 1554 with a large birthmark to worry the chronicler . Nevertheless, in 1573 she married the diplomat, statesman, imperial field captain and general Lazarus von Schwendi who was known for his religious tolerance . She first lived with him at Burkheim Castle , later she moved to Kirchhofen am Kaiserstuhl with the gout sufferer . The Catholic husband tolerated Eleanora's faith. She attended the Evangelical Church in Bischoffingen , where - according to the literature - after the death of her father she was given her own chair with a coat of arms. After the death of her first husband, she married the Protestant Johann III in 1586 - against the objection of her brother Wilhelm von Zimmer that she should choose a Catholic husband . Schenk von Limpurg , for whom she built a burial place in the Schlosskirche Schmiedelfeld in 1594/95. On behalf of the donor and his wife, the Nuremberg sculptor Hans Werner created a magnificent epitaph in 1603, of which only the life-size limestone figures of the donor couple and columns of the epitaph remain. In front of him was the burial place of the couple. Eleonora remained childless.
