The castle Burkheim , including New Castle or Schwendi castle called, is the ruin of a Spur castle at 200  m above sea level. NN on a steep rock southwest of the district Burkheim am Kaiserstuhl in the municipality Vogtsburg im Kaiserstuhl in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle was first mentioned on January 13, 1231. Owners were the margraves of Hachberg and in 1316 the lords of Üsenberg , in 1561 Lazarus von Schwendi and the Bastian family. After destruction and rebuilding, the castle was finally destroyed in the Franco-Dutch war between 1672 and 1676. Remains of the new building and remnants of the defensive wall , which are owned by a winery, have been preserved from the former castle .
