As a member of the House of Commons of the British Parliament , he represented the constituency of Meirionnydd Nant Conwy from 1992 to 2010 and the newly created constituency of Dwyfor Meirionnydd since 2010 . In the 2015 general election , Llwyd did not run, his successor was Liz Saville-Roberts , who had also run for Plaid Cymru. Llwyd was the group leader of Plaid Cymru.

Llwyd served as a barrister prior to his election to Parliament . Between 1990 and 1991 Llwyd was President of the Gwynedd Law Society. His main political interests include domestic politics, transportation, and agriculture. Llwyd Saunders names Lewis as the greatest influence on his political thinking .

Campaign to impeach Blair

In August 2004, Llwyd joined Adam Price's campaign to impeach the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom , Tony Blair . The reason for this was allegations of misleading Parliament and an alleged secret agreement with the President of the United States , George W. Bush , to overthrow Saddam Hussein , among other allegations. Llwyd and Alex Salmond of the Scottish National Party co-authored the proposal. In a Guardian questionnaire , Llwyd said he considered his leading role in the debate on the illegality of the attack on Iraq to be his "proudest moment". The proposal for impeachment was not discussed in parliament because it was not signed by the members of the major parties; nevertheless, Llwyd, Price, and others wanted to continue the campaign. With the resignation of Blair on June 27, 2007, however, it lost its importance.

Controversy over the 2007 National Assembly for Wales elections

Following the 2007 National Assembly for Wales elections, a Parliamentary Standards and Privilege Committee said that Plaid Cymru MPs Llwyd, Adam Price and Hywel Williams had advertised inappropriately during the election.

Parliament funds are available for members of parliament to communicate with their constituents on a regular basis. However, the committee concluded that the three MPs were inappropriately using these funds as part of Plaid Cymru's campaign during the elections, as the advertisements were published in publications available outside of their respective districts.

While admitting that no House of Commons rules were clearly broken by the three MPs regarding the period, the committee believed that the promotion was deliberately happening at the same time as the Assembly elections.

Llwyd stated that they would comply with the committee's decisions but acted in good faith, following the advice of the Department of Finance and Administration. The three were required to repay the money, about £ 5,000 each , and declare the cost as part of Plaid Cymru's election expenses.
