Elia Rediger (born July 8, 1985 in Kinshasa , Congo ) is a Swiss singer , artist and poet . He is a founding member of the band The Bianca Story .

Life

Elia Rediger was born in 1985 in Kinshasa, Congo. As the son of Swiss development workers, he grew up in Basel after returning to Switzerland, where he performed as a child singer at the Basel Theater. After staying in Denver, USA and studying media art, he founded the music group The bianca Story with Fabian Chiquet in 2006, in which he was a lyricist, front man and singer and has released 4 albums.

The bianca Story played for the first time in the theater with director Daniel Pfluger . The Acid Monks and Gilgamesh Must Die! (World premiere Deutsche Oper Berlin , 2014) with director Daniel Pfluger and Parade with Fabian Chiquet and Peter Pan with Michael Lippold at the Stadttheater Bern (2015).

With courage, chaos and looseness , he set himself up as mayor of his hometown Basel in 2012 and drew attention to the threatening sleep of his hometown with concerts, democratic songwriting sessions and dance parades . The first official "electoral song composed in an original democratic way" with 104 authors came into being. His troublemaker found 2881 votes. In the end Rediger admitted his defeat, but continued his political commitment in the artistic field between great opera, performance and the pop world. His texts and music deal with irritations, biographical, utopian, as well as utopian-realistic topics.

In Paris, Rediger wrote 14 songs for an LSD oratorio for the Basel Sinfonietta Orchestra on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the LSD ban. Together with William Brittelle and the Basel filmmaker Gregor Brändli, this resulted in a script for a concert film. In October 2016 the oratorio Oh Albert was performed with the Basel Sinfonietta . At the same time, on the occasion of the premiere, Elia Rediger mentioned that his band The bianca Story was «put in the top freezer compartment».

As the resident author of the Konzerttheater Bern , Switzerland, he wrote his first music theater piece Oh Boyoma in collaboration with Studio Kabako, DRC . To do this, he traveled to his native Democratic Republic of the Congo in spring 2016. Elia Rediger is a founding member of the artist collective Brigade Futur 3. The first album Alles wird Gut Gegange sein Werden came out in November 2017 on WhyPlayJazz.

His Singspiel Das Resort , conceived with Jürg Halter, premiered in 2019 at the Stadttheater Bern .

In September 2019 he and Dorine Mokha published the Minenoratorium Hercules by Lubumbashi, composed in the Congo. It is u. a. with Rediger's dispute with the Swiss raw materials company Glencore.

Rediger has been head of the late-night format From Ambush  : Power of the Arts at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since autumn 2019 and lives and works after stays in Denver, Paris, Basel and Berlin.

Music work

The narrative and singing voice is at the center of Rediger's music. The gloomy moods are broken by electronic moods. This is due to his handling of electronic pop music, instrument robots, choral music, classical music, Congolese beat music, jazz, electronics, rock. Music by Scott Walker, Neil Young, Mani Matter, Nina Simon, Bob Dylan have influenced him. With The bianca Story , Rediger released 4 albums and 2 plays. In 2009 they realized an art auction with the " Unique Copy Album ", with which an album was auctioned off as a one-off. This album also gained wider attention due to Rediger's public criticism of Wu-Tang Clan's unique album. For the album “DIGGER”, Rediger achieved 90,000 euros with The bianca Story, the highest ever crowdfunding sum for music in Europe. The album has since been available for free and was named "ransomed" by The bianca Story. The bianca Story has been touring Europe and Switzerland since 2006. They are winners of the Basler Pop Preis 2010 in their hometown Basel and were under contract with Tim Renner 's label Motor Music (Berlin) until 3015 . With the song "Dancing People Are Never Wrong" they achieved a club hit with Jan Blomqvist. The leading Swiss pop & rock radio station SRF 3 called them "the most important band in Switzerland" in 2009. The first solo songs were written in 2015. In Paris, Rediger wrote 14 texts and songs for an orchestral LSD oratorio. Together with post-genre composer, Oh Albert was created as a psychedelic lyrical concert. The world premiere with the Basel Sinfonietta took place in his hometown and birthplace of the LSD Basel. Together with filmmaker Gregor Brändli, they shot an experimental concert film of the same name in 14 chapters with an audience. (VÖ2017 / 18) in April 2019 premiered his first operetta under the title DAS RESORT at the Konzerttheater Bern.
