Fabian Chiquet (born August 11, 1985 in Basel ) is a Swiss artist , musician and theater maker. He is a founding member of the pop band The Bianca Story .

Life

After a career as a professional footballer emerged in his youth, he changed his plans, formed a band and enrolled at the art school. Chiquet has been at the University of Art and Design in Basel Art studied and followed with a master's degree in Transdisciplinarity at the Zurich University of the Arts completed.

As an artist, Chiquet worked with the Claudia Groeflin Gallery in Zurich and the Löhrl Gallery in Mönchengladbach. He had his first museum exhibitions in 2011 in the Osthaus Museum Hagen and in 2012 in the Kunsthaus Langenthal . In this context, his first catalog, “Dancing High Low”, was published by Verlag für moderne Kunst , Nuremberg. He has received various Swiss art awards for his video & sound installations .

As a musician, Chiquet founded the band The bianca Story together with Elia Rediger in 2006 , in which he is a songwriter and keyboardist . He toured with the band across Europe since the band was founded. In addition to the releases of the The bianca story albums, the band has made a name for itself with productions such as “M & The Acid Monks”, “Gilgamesh Must Die!” (World premiere at Deutsche Oper Berlin , 2014) and “Peter Pan” (world premiere at Konzert Theater Bern ) made in the field of musical theater .

Fabian Chiquet has been developing music and dance theater projects on his own since 2013 . His debut “Parade”, which premiered at Kaserne Basel and then toured Switzerland, is a multimedia music and dance performance that refers to the ballet “ Parade ”, which was premiered in 1917 by Jean Cocteau , Pablo Picasso and Erik Satie . This was followed by “The Wedding Party Massacre” (2015), which, after a tour in various Swiss theaters, has also existed as an independent industrial pop band since 2016, performing at music festivals and concert clubs.

He is currently working on various music and theater productions, including a music theater with the Bernese rapper Steff la Cheffe .

Working with other artists and musicians is a central part of his productions. In doing so, he repeatedly dealt with the staging strategies of popular culture . The magazine " Annabelle " says about his work: "Nowhere else do art, pop and performance dance more closely together than in the disco ball cosmos of the Basel all-rounder."

With The bianca Story Chiquet has released 4 albums so far. In 2009 they also realized a publication project with the " Unique Copy Album ", in which an online release was combined with the auction of a sound sculpture at the Kunsthaus Glarus . For their album "Digger" they achieved 90,000 euros, the highest ever crowdfunding sum for music in Europe. The album has been available for free since then. The bianca Story has been touring Europe and Switzerland for years, has played over 300 concerts and has performed at all major festivals in Switzerland. You are the holder of the Basler Pop Prize 2010 and under contract with Tim Renner 's Label Motor Music (Berlin). With the song "Dancing People Are Never Wrong" - a slogan from a video installation by Chiquet - they had a club hit in the version by Jan Blomqvist. The leading Swiss pop & rock radio station SRF 3 called them "the most important band in Switzerland". Chiquet composes the music for his art installations himself and also writes music for the musical theater of other artists and directors.
