Elias Hoyek
Elias Pierre Hoyek , also Hoayek , (born December 4, 1843 in Helta , Lebanon , † December 24, 1931 ) was a Lebanese clergyman and from 1899 to 1931 Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and the whole of the Orient .
Life
Elias Pierre Hoyek received 1870, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
In 1889 he became titular archbishop pro hac vice of Arca in Armenia and auxiliary bishop in the Maronite Patriarchate of Antioch . He was ordained bishop on December 14, 1889 by the Patriarch of Antioch, Boulos Boutros Massaad .
On January 6, 1899, Hoyek was elected Patriarch of Antioch and on June 19 of the same year by Pope Leo XIII. approved.
In the beatification procedure opened for him, Pope Francis awarded him the heroic degree of virtue on July 6, 2019 .
