Elif Batuman
Elif Batuman (born June 7, 1977 in New York City , USA ) is an American university professor and author .
Life
Batuman is the daughter of Turkish parents and grew up in New Jersey . She graduated from Harvard College in 2007, but had previously written for various magazines such as The New Yorker , Harper's Magazine and n + 1 .
Batumans doctorate in the subject Comparative Literature at Stanford University in California was titled The Windmill and the Giant: Double-Entry Bookkeeping in the Novel (German: The windmill and the giant: Double-entry bookkeeping in the novel ), and treated the ratio of the process of social research and the inventiveness of novelists. During her graduate studies, she studied the Uzbek language for some time in Samarkand in Uzbekistan . She was a professor at Stanford University until 2010.
Batuman's first book, The Possessed, was based on previously published journal articles and was published in 2010. In 2013 she was a juror for the Man Booker International Prize . She then lived in Istanbul until 2013 , wrote for the New Yorker and was Writer in Residence at the local Koç University .
