Elin Kåven

Elin Kåven (born October 25, 1979 in Hammerfest ) is a Sami singer from Norway .

life and career

At the age of 16 Elin moved to the south of Norway and later abroad. She missed her old home and moved back to Karasjok in northern Norway after nine years .

After taking part in a Sami singing competition, she released her first EP in 2005 . Since then she has released three albums, some singles and other works. In her songs she uses traditional Sami jojken . In 2008 she won the Sámi Grand Prix , in the same year she came second in the Liet Lavlut European Song Contest for Minority Languages . Elin was named Sami Artist of the Year in 2011 . In February 2012 she was a finalist in the International songwriting competition with her song Áibbas Jaska / All still , in which Ozzy Osbourne , Tori Amos , Tom Waits and Robert Smith were judges. In 2013 she was on national television with a symphony orchestra. Her third album Eamirtini-Rimeborn was released in November 2015 and scored 11th place on the World Music Chart Europe in March 2016. She was also on Indigenous Song Lines , a show on Nordic television. In 2016, her third album was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize. In total, she has already resigned in twelve countries around the world. Together with the composer Robin Lynch she took part in the Melodi Grand Prix 2017 as Elin & The Woods , where she achieved third place.
