Elio Guzzanti

Elio Guzzanti (born August 18, 1920 in Rome ; † May 2, 2014 ibid) was an Italian doctor , professor at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome and politician .

Life

Elio Guzzanti was a specialist in respiratory diseases and hospital hygiene and technology. He was director of the Santo Spirito and San Camillo hospitals and the Umberto I Polyclinic in Rome. From 1976 to 1984 and from 1991 to 1993 he was a member of the Board of Health. From 1985 to 1994 he was Scientific Director of the Bambino Gesù Children's Clinic and from 1996 to 1998 Director of the Office for Regional Health Services.

He was also the author of numerous publications in the health sector. Elio Guzzanti was a non-party from January 17, 1995 to May 17, 1996, Italian Minister of Health under Prime Minister Lamberto Dini . His predecessor was Raffaele Costa, his successor was Rosy Bindi .

He was President of the Scientific Committee of the Cesare Serono Foundation. On October 28, 2009, following the resignation of the President of the Lazio Region, Piero Marrazzo , he was appointed by the Berlusconi government to act as Commissioner for Health in this region. He was also the scientific director of the Institute for Hospitalization and Care (IRCCS Oasi Troina) in Enna .

Elio Guzzanti died in May 2014 at the age of 93 in the Gemelli Clinic in Rome.

He was the uncle of Paolo Guzzanti , journalist and politician, whose children Corrado , Sabina and Caterina are known as comedians and TV personalities.
