history

The Elisabeth was built in Saint Petersburg by the Scottish engineer Charles Baird . The balancers - steam engine had four operating and two lateral PS blade wheels with a diameter of 2.40 m and with six sheets of 1.20 m width on. The lower part of the chimney was made of bricks and ended in a 7,62 m long steel pipe that also served as a sail mast. The ship reached a speed of 5.8 knots.

The first test drives took place on the pond of the Tauride Palace . On November 3, 1815, the first trip from Saint Petersburg to Kronstadt took place, which lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes. Due to bad weather, the return trip took 5 hours 22 minutes. After this successful journey, Charles Baird received numerous public contracts.
