Elisabeth Hlavac

Elisabeth Hlavac (born February 25, 1952 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1989 to 2008 she was - with several interruptions - a member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

After attending primary school , Hlavac attended secondary school from 1962 to 1970 . She then studied law at the University of Vienna . She completed her studies in 1976 with the promotion of Dr. iur. from. She has been working in the Parliamentary Administration since 1975.

Political offices

Since 1971 Hlavac has been volunteering in the SPÖ Vienna / Döbling. From 1978 to 1988 she was district councilor in the Vienna district of Döbling , and since 1985 she has been deputy district chairwoman and district women chairwoman of the SPÖ Vienna / Döbling. In 1989 Hlavac became a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Vienna and a member of the federal party executive. In 1988 she became deputy chairwoman of the SPÖ Vienna. From 1998 to 1999 Hlavac was deputy chairman of the SPÖ parliamentary club.

On April 9, 1988, Hlavac became a member of the Austrian Federal Council . She held this office until 1989, from 1994 to 1996 and from 2003 to 2004. In 1989 she was elected for the first time as a member of the Austrian National Council in her constituency of Vienna . She held this mandate until 1994. From 1996 to 1999 and from 2000 to 2002 Hlavac was also a member of the National Council. She belonged to this again from July 6, 2004 to October 27, 2008. She was integration spokeswoman for the SPÖ in the National Council. Her specialist areas are integration , women and equal treatment , relations with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and health and culture.

From January 1995 to November 1996 Hlavac was a member of the European Parliament and belonged to the group of the Party of European Socialists . There she was a member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Citizens' Rights, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defense Policy and the Committee on Civil Liberties and Internal Affairs.

Honors

In 1998, Hlavac was awarded the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria .
