history

The Elisabeth-Klinikum Schmalkalden was opened as a regional hospital in 1945 after the Second World War and expanded to include the internal department in Rötweg. In 1990 the house was owned by the district of Schmalkalden and, from 1994, by the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen , and in 1993 the non-profit GmbH was founded. In 2011 the clinic, previously known as a district hospital, was named "Elisabeth Clinic Schmalkalden". Today the hospital is integrated into the structure of Kreiswerke Schmalkalden-Meiningen GmbH.
