Elisabeth Kloß

Elisabeth Kloß (born November 2, 1897 in Memel , East Prussia , † August 4, 1970 in Stuttgart ) was a German archivist and historian in Danzig and Stuttgart.

Life

The family moved to Danzig in 1900, where their father, Philipp Kloß, ran a shop. Elisabeth attended the Victoria School .

From 1917 she worked in the Gdansk State Archives . Since 1921 she was an assistant to the scientific staff. From 1926 to 1929 Elisabeth Kloß studied history and art history at the Technical University in Danzig. From 1927 she worked for the archive director.

In 1942 Elisabeth Kloß became a member of the State Office for Monument Preservation. In the spring of 1945 she helped to secure holdings in the State Archives.

From May 1945 Kloß worked in the city library in Danzig. She received Polish citizenship in October. From the end of 1946 Elisabeth Kloß was employed as a research assistant in the State Archives.

In 1957 she moved to Stuttgart, where she worked for some time in the main state archive.

Elisabeth Kloß published several historical writings about Gdansk and the surrounding cities, mainly with archive material from the State Archives.
