Elisabeth Kornfeind

Elisabeth Kornfeind (* 1967 ) is an Austrian lawyer and diplomat . Since December 2017 she has been the Austrian ambassador to Belgium and since April 2018 permanent representative of Austria to NATO .

Life

Elisabeth Kornfeind grew up in Bernstein in Burgenland . After graduating from high school , she began studying law at the University of Vienna , which she completed in 1989 as a Magistra . 1994 doctorate it to the doctor's rights . She started her professional career in 1990 as an assistant at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . In 1995/96 she was an attaché at the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in New York . From 1999 to 2003 she was Counselor for Press and EU Affairs in London . In 2004 she became director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in London, and from 2008 to 2012 she was Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Budapest .

At the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs , she held various functions in the Europe section and worked in the office of the Secretary General. She was also Head of the EU Coordination Department and headed a task force for the preparation of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2018 . Since December 2017 she has succeeded Jürgen Meindl as the Austrian Ambassador to Belgium . In April 2018 she also took up her position as Austrian ambassador to NATO .
