Elisabeth Orth born Fritz (born March 24, 1921 in Hanover ; † May 10, 1976 in Cologne ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and politics

Orth was a qualified farmer. From 1946 to 1947 she worked in the Ministry of Agriculture of Württemberg-Baden , after which she was a housewife. She had been a member of the SPD since 1963. She was chairwoman of the Schleswig-Holstein State Women's Committee and was elected to the Bundestag in 1969 via the Schleswig-Holstein State List. In the 1972 election she was directly elected in the constituency of Rendsburg - Neumünster . She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 until her death in 1976. Her successor was Rudolf Herbers . From 1970 to 1976 she was also a member of the European Parliament.

From 1972 she built up the working group of social democratic women in Schleswig-Holstein , which replaced the system of local women's groups for women's political work, and from 1972 to 1975 she was the first chairwoman of the ARSP regional women's committee, as it was then still called, at times also a member of the federal women's committee. The SPD recalled in its obituary:

"It is thanks to the tireless efforts of Elisabeth Orth that issues of legal and political equality for women in our society became a top priority for the SPD in Schleswig-Holstein [sic!]."

She was widowed and had five children.
