Elisabeth Willeboordse

Elisabeth Willeboordse (born September 14, 1978 in Middelburg ) is a former Dutch judoka . In 2005 and 2010 she was European champion.

Athletic career

Willeboordse was the 1992 Dutch U18 champion in the weight class up to 56 kilograms. Until 1997 she then competed in the weight class up to 61 kilograms. After a year in the weight class up to 70 kilograms, the 1.69 m tall judoka started in 1999 in the light middleweight class up to 63 kilograms.

In 1999 she won her first Dutch championship title; More followed in 2000, 2003 and 2006. In 2001 Willeboordse won her first World Cup tournament in Leonding. At the European Championships in 2004 she reached the semi-finals, after defeats against Aneta Szczepańska from Poland and Julia Kuzina from Russia , the Dutchwoman finished fifth. The following year she defeated Aneta Szczepańska in the round of 16 at the European Championships in Rotterdam, followed by victories over the Russian Irina Gromowa , the Italian Giulia Quintavalle and in the final over Claudia Heill from Austria. At the Judo World Championships in 2005 , she finished seventh. In 2006 she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Tampere, after she was defeated in the semifinals of the British Sarah Clark . The following year, the Dutch lost at the Judo World Championships 2007 in Rio de Janeiro against the Japanese Ayumi Tanimoto in the quarter-finals, after three wins in the round of hope, she received the bronze medal. In the quarter-finals of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Willeboordse was defeated by the North Korean Won Ok-im , as at the World Championships last year, she won bronze with three wins in the hope round.

In 2009 Elisabeth Willeboordse reached the semi-finals of the European Championships in Tbilisi . After defeats against the Russian Vera Koval and Alice Schlesinger from Israel, she finished fifth. At the Judo World Championships in Rotterdam in 2009 , she defeated the Israeli in the quarterfinals and also won the semifinals against the Slovenian Urška Žolnir . In the final in Rotterdam she was defeated by the Japanese Yoshie Ueno and received the silver medal. At the 2010 European Judo Championships in Vienna, she won her second title after 2005 by beating the Italian Edwige Gwend in the final . At the 2010 World Championships in Tokyo , she lost in the quarter-finals to her compatriot Anicka van Emden and finished in seventh place. Both Dutch women were members of the team that won the 2010 world championship title in the team competition. At the Judo World Championships 2011 in Paris Willeboordse lost the semifinals against the French Gévrise Émane , the battle for the bronze medal was won by Annicka van Emden. At the end of her career, Elisabeth Willeboordse took seventh place at the 2012 Olympic Games in London .
