Elisabeth von Hanau (* between 1335 and 1340; † after October 2, 1396 ) was Countess von Katzenelnbogen by marriage.

She was a daughter of Ulrich III. von Hanau (* approx. 1310; † 1369/70) and Countess Adelheid von Nassau († August 8, 1344), daughter of Count Gerlach I of Nassau . The year of birth of Elisabeth is unknown and can only be estimated based on her wedding date.

Elisabeth of Hanau

Elisabeth was married to Count Wilhelm II von Katzenelnbogen († before October 23, 1385). The engagement took place on June 22, 1355, the wedding shortly afterwards. The groom's morning gift was 4,000 Frankfurt guilders , a debt that he did not pay in cash, but rather by transferring the town and castle of Zwingenberg on Bergstrasse as pledge and their income as income instead of interest. Her father, on the other hand, prescribed Count Wilhelm II. On the occasion of the wedding as a dowry for his daughter, his portion of Tannenberg Castle (one sixth) free of charge. In addition, Wilhelm II received 4,000 pounds of Heller or 400 pounds of Gülte for half the Hanau village of Schaafheim . Elisabeth and Wilhelm's marriage remained childless.
