Elisabeth von Pfalz-Simmern (born February 13, 1520 in Simmern , † February 18, 1564 in Fürstenau ) was Countess of Erbach by marriage .

Life

Elisabeth was a daughter of the Count Palatine and Duke Johann II of Palatinate-Simmern (1492–1557) from his marriage to Beatrix (1492–1535), daughter of the Margrave Christoph I of Baden . She was a sister of the Elector Friedrich III. from the Palatinate .

Elisabeth married on January 9, 1535 in Fürstenau Count Georg II. Von Erbach (1506–1569), Oberhofmarschall of the Elector Palatinate in Heidelberg. The wedding was celebrated very elaborately; Elizabeth's dowry was 6,000 gold florins. After the marriage, Georg resided with his wife in Fürstenau, a previous secondary residence of the Counts of Erbach. Elisabeth developed a friendly relationship with the humanist Olympia Fulvia Morata, who had found asylum with her husband at court in Fürstenau.

The countess, whose marriage remained childless, was buried in the town church of Michelstadt . The grave tumba of Elisabeth and her husband Georg, created by Johann von Trarbach , dominates the center of the choir area there and is decorated with baluster columns in the style of the early Renaissance.
