The chapel is St. Consecrated to Elisabeth of Thuringia . Her cousin Otto von Botenlauben was lord of the castle ruins of Reiterswiesen in Botenlauben .
history
In 1984 the local Heimatverein decided to use the surplus of over 8,000 DM generated for the 750th anniversary of Reiterswiesen as a "visible sign" to commemorate the local jubilee. The concept of the association member Franz Laudenbach to build a chapel in honor of Otto von Botenlauben's cousin, St. Elisabeth of Thuringia prevailed.
After Bad Kissingen's Lord Mayor Georg Straus had promised his support, the sculptor Riistler agreed to make a replica of Tilman Riemenschneider 's depiction of Elisabeth from the St. Maria Magdalena Church in Munich ; which was financed by the Elisabethinerinnen Congregation from the Reiterswiesener Elisabeth Hospital .
A 400 m 2 plot of land on the Stöckes was leased, and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 15, 1986. Companies from Bad Kissingen and the Reiterswiesen, Arnshausen and Winkels districts , from Oberthulba and its Eltingshausen district, and from Haard ( Nüdlingen district ) and Stralsbach ( Burkardroth district ) supported the project.
The church was consecrated on May 24, 1987.
In 2007 the Reiterswiesen association organized a festival to mark the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Elisabeth after the chapel was renovated.
