Elizabeth Anka Vajagic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elizabeth Anka Vajagic (* in Montreal ) is a Canadian singer and guitarist with Croatian roots.

Vajagic's music is somewhere between different styles of music, classic songwriting , folk , blues and post-rock, and at the first hearing it appears simple and disturbing at the same time. It is usually only carried by the interaction of her voice with the guitar and a few other instruments, such as the violin , harmonium or percussion . Her sparingly used singing has often been compared to that of Patti Smith or PJ Harvey , but basically her way of singing apparently impulsively and as deeply as possible from the body is unique. Accordingly, the effect of their sometimes quite long songs is mostly rough, unpolished and also dark.

Elizabeth Anka Vajagic gave her first live appearances in the area in the mid-1990s. Their first album , stand with the stillness of this day , was released in 2004 and, like the EP Nostalgia / Pain , which was released the following year, was released on Constellation Records , the label that primarily promoted the Montreal-based post-rock scene around Godspeed You! Black Emperor is relocated. Although Vajagic's music can hardly be assigned to the now established post-rock scheme, you can clearly hear the influence of the Montréal music scene. This is mainly due to the collaboration of various musicians from the local scene, such as Efrim Menuck , who works for Godspeed You! Black Emperor and A Silver Mt. Zion is in the lead, Sam Shalabi as well as members of bands like Molasses , Hrsta , Crackpot (band) and Steak 72 .
